LeaderQuest
This past weekend I helped out at a leadership overnight for high school students. The purpose was to teach the students leadership skills so they can be successful in every area of their life. It really was a lot of fun and the kids loved it.
One of my favorite activities was having the kids "start a band". The point of the activity was that the 8 teens had to form a group, work out the details of what their band played, where they played, who played what role in the band, and so on. Then once they had everything worked out, we messed it up! We told them 3 members of their band were unhappy and had decided to break away into their own band...now there were two bands and they had to work everything out again. Once they were back on track, we messed things up again! This time the singer was sick and needed surgery. The band had to decide who would take her place while she recovered, and what happens when she comes back.
It was really neat to see how the students handled the problems their bands faced. The students really got into their roles and took the exercise seriously. The leaders of the group did a great job leading the group.
While we were debriefing, we started talking about building businesses and how problems occur and how to handle them. It was so neat because we started to talk about my bear making. The students were fascinated that I took fabric and made it into a bear (when they first heard I make bears...they thought I meant at Build-a-Bear). They wanted to know how I would turn my hobby into a career. We talked about the steps I should take and how I can work toward a goal of owning a business one day.
It was a great experience to see these students get excited about something I am interested in, and using it to apply to the things they were learning.
Whether I actually ever do start selling bears, or even open a bear store, is not really the point. The point is I could. I have a lot of support, my boyfriend, my family, my friends, and even some other bear artists I consider my mentors. They all believe I have enough talent to one day sell my bears along side all the bear artists there are. I am not sure I agree completely...but I am going to continue to work on my bear making, especially after having students use my hobby for an example in their leader training. If they came up with a plan for me to start a bear business...why not try it?

On the butts of Nosie Bears
So on every bear I make I put my signature, the three dots, on the bottom of the bear. I put the three dots on everything I make, so I wanted to include that on my bears.
I also made tags for my bears with the Nosie Bear logo I drew.
Next post to come should be about a bear I made for my boyfriend Mark...it was a good one!

New Bears...finally...
Okay so I finished these bears a while ago...but the computer won't read the memory card of my camera for some reason...so I had to wait until my new netbook that my boyfriend bought me came in.
Anyhow this is my little white bear, Millie, and my funky panda bear, Mai (pronounces May). I have to fix Mai's arms because they are a little high and she looks like she is shrugging...other than that I like her. She was a pain to make and I am not sure how often I will be making big bears. I really like the size Millie is and will likely make a lot of bears that size. She is smaller than Topper but not too small.
I know I am rambling a bit, but I should be doing work for school...I am just procrastinating...

Nosie Bears Logo
I made my logo on the computer...It is interesting to draw a bear with a mouse. But I really like how it came out! I hope you do too!
